A group of EMM Group bottle waitresses have worked in the hottest nightclubs in Manhattan over the past decade and are coming together in hopes of outshining the male-dominated industry to become the new queens of New York nightlife. These notable women have collectively worked at all of EMM Group owners Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum’s nightlife establishments including Finale, SL, Catch Roof, SL East and Tenjune upon coming together to start a nightlife business of their own. They’re beginning a series of underground “One Night Only” pop-up parties each month to show the men who operate New York City’s most successful nightlife companies what they’ve got.
The team consists of Alexandria Murphy, Ivanka Naydenova, Mariya Dekhman, Christina Donato and Stephanie Ross. Three of the women still currently work at EMM Group clubs while others have just recently left the company to work on this new venture. These ladies have realize that they are almost 30 years old and can’t be bottle service waitresses forever, which is why they’ve decided to branch out and do something that has never been done before in the industry, begin an all female run nightlife company. On June 23rd 2013, they hosted their first party called “Resurrection Sundays” accompanied by nightlife kings Steve Lewis and DJ Dalton, where guests only received word on the location 24 hours in before the party.
One of the women, Alexandria Murphy, commented to say that the overall vibe of their events would not be the cliché crowd that most clubs have nowadays, known in the industry as ‘models and bottles’ parties. They want to create the old school, underground type of parties that used to thrive in NYC just five years ago. The group plans to produce 10 events a year expanding out of New York to other cities as well as major events like Sundance and The Super Bowl. Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum of EMM Group commented on the news, stating that they are very happy for the hardworking ladies and does not mind the competition. They know that these women have great experience in the industry and are happy to see their employees aspiring to do more and grow within the business.
In addition, Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum are also adding to their business portfolio with the launch of La Cenita. EMM Group will debut the its newest Mexican inspired restaurant concept on Monday September 23rd at 409 West 14th Street in Manhattan’s Meatpacking neighborhood. La Cenita features a menu of sharable, small plates crafted by Executive Chef Akhtar Nawab, formerly of La Esquina. EMM Group is best known for restaurants in New York City and Miami such as Catch, The General, Jazz Room, Lexington Brass and Catch Miami as well as nightlife venues in New York, New Jersey and Miami including Finale, SL, Catch Roof, SL East, The Chandelier Room, HQ Nightclub and HQ Beach Club.
